Animal Inquiry: Whale Shark





I have been learning about the Whale Shark.



Here's some facts for you:

  1. They are the biggest fish in the sea.
  2. They are very slow travellers, moving at around 3 mph-5mph.
  3. Whale Sharks can have 300 pups.
  4. They are carnivores with their favourite meal is plankton.
  5. They can not survive in cold water (less than 30 degrees celsius).
  6. Whale Sharks have 3,000 teeth (but they're very small).
  7. The average weight of the Whale Shark is 18.7 tonnes.
  8. The largest whale shark ever measured was12.2 metres long (similar to the size of a bus).
  9. Whale sharks have been sighted off the coasts of of Australia, India, the Maldives, South Africa, Belize, Mexico, the Galapagos Islands, Southeast Asia and Indonesia.
  10. Human fishermen are a predator of the Whale Shark.
