Mathematics: Time

In maths we are learning about clocks digital and analogue and we had a maths test on Wednesday.
Clocks are important so you will be in time for school, appointments and in time for bed.
These are some analogue time tips:
When the big hand is on the three it is quarter past.
When the big hand is on the six it is half past.
When the big hand is on the nine it is quarter two.

Understanding the World Wars!

Today I gave the children an exciting speech and play about how World War 1 and 2 started. The children in Room 8 then went to their desks and wrote any interesting information that caught their thinking. I was impressed with some children sharing prior knowledge in their answers. The work below are from Jonty and Francis. I was impressed with their detail and understanding they gained. Well done boys!

World War 1
Germany started getting people to build battleships, tanks and guns. All the other countries didn't like being less powerful and they started building the same things. A man wanted to shoot a guy (Archduke Franz Ferdinand). The driver got lost and went back past the assassin and this time he got his shot. Then the war started.
After the war (1914-1918) Germany got land taken off them and money. Hitler helped the people get there land back and signed treaties, then betrayed them.

  • Nazi-Soviet Treaty

In 1890 in Europe, Britain and Germany had a weapons race.

When Germany invaded Poland, the British were angry and helped Poland but Poland fell to the Germans. The British declared war on Germany. Germany signed a peace treaty with Japan. The British asked the Americans if they will help them and they said no. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbour, the Americans joined the war. Germany signed a peace treaty with Italy.
