Reading in Room 8

This term the children have been working on Journal contracts. Everyday the children have a new story to read and activities to complete. The children read with the teacher twice a week, where we are learning to read with expression and to use the punctuation.

Some of the activities require the children to draw storyboards, list the adjectives in the story, explain the message of the story, illuminate a sentence and to re-write a poem or story in your own words. The activities require the children to be independent and motivated. As I look through their work, the children have gained greater understanding of what they read and we are still continuing to expand our vocabulary.

The children read a variety of genre - articles, stories and poems.

Alice C has written a fantastic poem in her independent reading activities.

Wrong side of the bed.
Once I brushed my hair,

it got tangled in the air.

After I had my breakfast,

I tripped all over my sisters.

That cat pooed on my bed,

it smelt all the way up to my head.

At lunchtime I sat on the friendship seat,

I heard an annoying beat.

I think I could of just had a good day,

if i turned the bed the right way.
