Anzac Day Ceremony

“Serving Our Country”

Dear Parents,

This term your child will be learning and seeking knowledge about “Serving Our Country” in the defence forces. In the first three weeks we give the children many different experiences and information to absorb, so they can decide on a topic that they would like to investigate further.

We are fortunate to have Anzac Day on Sunday 25th April to help expose this topic to the children.
The children will be honouring our Anzac heroes in a ceremony on Friday 23rd April in the school hall at 11:50am. This will follow a similar programme as the dawn service.
I would like to invite all parents and families to come and support the children in their learning and celebration of our Anzacs in this ceremony.
I have received poppies from the Returned Services Association (RSA) for our Anzac ceremony. On Thursday, we would like children to bring a gold coin donation for their poppy to their classroom teacher. The children will wear their poppy for our Anzac Ceremony and the money donated will be given to a member of the RSA during the ceremony.

During the ceremony I would like to display photos of our family members (grandparents, great grandparents, uncles, aunts) who have served in the defence forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) past or present. Any photos provided will be scanned and the photos will be given back to you. Alternatively you can email the pictures to abraham.atherton@ola.school.nz. It would be appreciated if pictures could be provided by Wednesday.

Many thanks,
Abraham Atherton
